Join our Transformation & Change Team at L&Q:

We have a multi-year, multi-million pound investment, transformation and change portfolio at L&Q, spanning full operating model, ways of working, structures and systems. We are seeking a highly experienced individual to take end to end responsibility for the design, development and leadership of portfolio plans, working collaboratively with other portfolio colleagues, and design, delivery and business teams, to ensure plans are comprehensive, accurate, and enable effective dependency management, robust governance and decision making, and organisational agility. Ultimately, the portfolio planner is at the heart of enabling the successful realisation of portfolio objectives and outcomes. This role exists to design, establish and own our portfolio master plan. However, the role is not simply about producing a plan; it is about working across the organisation to identify what information and inputs are required to enable effective portfolio-level sequencing and strategic decision-making, and ensuring those inputs can be provided sustainably over time. This role will be highly visible across L&Q and the capability you build will be used to drive senior level decision making on prioritisation, sequencing, investment and capacity. While we have a proposed direction and intent for portfolio planning, this is a genuinely greenfield role. The successful candidate will be expected to design the portfolio planning capability from scratch – defining the approach, shaping the processes, and establishing what “good” looks like in practice. This includes building the governance, ways of working and engagement model required to embed portfolio-level planning as an enduring organisational capability, rather than a one-off exercise. This is not a delivery planning role. We are seeking someone with deep experience of portfolio-level planning at scale, who understands the distinction between transformation portfolio planning and project or programme delivery planning, and how portfolio direction sets constraints without replacing detailed delivery plans. The focus is on shaping the overall Transformation journey and the organisation’s ability to absorb it, not on managing individual initiatives.

If this sounds like you, we would love for you to apply!

Your impact in the role:

You will take the lead in establishing the mechanisms required to collate, integrate and maintain the information required to coordinate L&Q’s transformation. This includes working across the business to agree data ownership, setting clear expectations, and holding teams accountable for providing timely, accurate inputs into a single, coherent portfolio view. As a result, you will position the resulting portfolio plan in a way that builds engagement, understanding and buy-in across all levels of the organisation.

What you'll bring:

We are looking for proven experience designing and leading portfolio-level planning at scale, including building portfolio planning capability from the ground up in large, complex organisations and embedding it as an enduring organisational function rather than a one-off exercise. You will bring clear examples of having built portfolio planning capability from the ground up in complex environments, be confident facilitating senior-level planning workshops, and able to navigate ambiguity, surface trade-offs and turn competing demands into a credible roadmap. You will have produced executive-facing planning artefacts such as portfolio roadmaps and master plans and be comfortable operating in a high-profile role at the centre of a complex organisation. We are looking for someone personable, credible and influential, able to build strong relationships across a wide stakeholder group, communicate clearly at all levels, and take ownership of an area without step-by-step direction. You will be motivated by outcomes, comfortable with ambiguity, and experienced in environments where processes are evolving and expectations are high.

A Recruitment Advocate will join this recruitment process as a panel member. This is part of an internal scheme supporting our recruitment process to be fair, transparent and consistent.
