We're looking for a Senior Power Platform Engineer to join DPI on a fixed-term basis, covering maternity leave. You'll bring strong all-round Power Platform expertise Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse,with the depth to work across DPI's automation and reporting estate, troubleshoot technical issues, and advise on the right tool for a given problem.
Alongside this, you'll lead DPI's Power BI work: taking ownership of the team's data models, reports and dashboards, setting the standard for quality and governance. You'll lead a PowerBI Community of practice.

Job description
As a Senior Power Platform Engineer, you'll:
- Bring strong all-round Power Platform expertise — Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse — working across DPI's automation and reporting estate, troubleshooting technical issues, and advising on the right tool for a given problem
- Lead DPI's Power BI work: taking ownership of the team's data models, reports and dashboards, setting the standard for quality and governance
- Be the go-to person for directorates needing new or improved BI products, and you'll represent Power BI in DPI's wider planning and stakeholder conversations for the duration of the cover
Person specification
As a Senior Power Platform Engineer, you'll have:
- Substantial hands-on experience building production Power BI reports and data models, including advanced DAX and data modelling (star schema, relationships, performance tuning)
- Experience administering a Power BI workspace/service environment (security, refresh, gateways)
- Ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders to scope BI requirements and translate them into deliverable models
- Strong written and verbal communication, able to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences
- Comfortable operating with a degree of autonomy in a small, delivery-focused team
- Working knowledge of the wider Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) sufficient to build simple flows/apps and advise on tool choice

Stage 1: Sift (CV & Cover Letter)
Experience & Technical: Your covering letter should be no more than 1 page referencing how you meet the criteria set out in the job description.
Most of our campaigns utilise multiple assessors and so it is possible that each of your answers would be viewed by different assessors.
In the event that we receive a large number of applications, we may conduct an initial sift using the lead sift question listed in the advert. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift, or progressed straight to interview.
Lead sift question (Experience): Describe a time you had to explain a complex technical solution or piece of analysis to a non-technical audience. What was the situation, how did you approach it, and what did you deliberately choose to simplify or leave out?
