Job summary

The House of Commons are looking for a Senior Project Engineer with a mechanical engineering background to lead the delivery of high-profile projects across the UK Parliamentry estate. You will manage a team of project leads delivering mechanical-led projects valued between £50k and £2m, taking schemes from early definition and business case through design, procurement, construction and handover.

Job description

This role is exciting because no two projects are the same. You’ll work on nationally significant, often listed, buildings where technical excellence, safety and innovation really matter. Acting as a senior technical authority, you’ll review designs, coordinate multiple disciplines and stakeholders, and ensure compliance with Parliamentary standards, CDM regulations and statutory requirements.

Beyond delivery, you’ll help shape how projects are run, driving continuous improvement and supporting the move toward condition-based maintenance. You’ll also have opportunities to deputise for senior managers and contribute to major programmes, including Restoration and Renewal. With strong training and development support, this is a chance to build your career while helping maintain and modernise one of the most unique estates in the UK.

This role is offered on a hybrid working basis, with an expectation of you spending 60% of your time in the office.

Person specification

What we’re looking for

  • Degree-level in Mechanical Engineering & a Chartered Status/working towards
  • Excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills, with the ability to build & maintain relationships promoting inclusion and diversity
  • Experience in delivering projects and a proven experience of managing multiple maintenance projects
  • A working knowledge of Health & Safety in maintenance with a familiarity of CDM regulations
  • A practical understanding of NEC contracts and experience in a financial environment for project delivery
