
Senior Registrar
Job Description
OverviewThe London Borough of Harrow is looking for a dedicated and highly professional As and When Senior Registrar to join its Registration Service. This is a pivotal public‑facing role, responsible for the accurate registration of births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships and citizenship ceremonies, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and the highest standards of service delivery.
As Senior Registrar, you will act as the public face of the Register Office, conducting ceremonies at the Harrow Pavilion and approved external venues. You will provide guidance and reassurance to individuals and families at key life events, demonstrating empathy, integrity and attention to detail. The role requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage complex schedules, and the confidence to handle sensitive or challenging situations with professionalism.
You will also contribute to governance and oversight, safeguarding the integrity of official registers and certificate stock, and ensuring financial transactions are managed securely. Working collaboratively with colleagues, external partners and the wider community, you will promote equality, diversity and excellent customer service.

About You
The successful candidate will have:-
- Proven experience in delivering high‑quality public services in a customer‑facing environment.
- Strong knowledge of statutory requirements and legislation relevant to registration and ceremonies.
- Demonstrated ability to perform and lead public ceremonies with confidence and professionalism.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage complex schedules and competing priorities.
- Experience of handling sensitive or challenging situations with empathy and resilience.
- High level of integrity and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and problem‑solve creatively under pressure.
- Financial awareness with experience of managing payments and safeguarding official records.
- Flexibility to work unsocial hours, including weekends, and travel to external venues when required.

Salary range
- £39,846 - £41,712 per year
