Brighter Futures for Children

Senior SEN Resolution Lead

Full-time, Fixed Term 12 months

About us

Brighter Futures for Children is a not-for-profit company, owned by, but independent of, Reading Borough Council. Although we are independent, we are very much part of the Reading Family. Our people enjoy all of benefits as other Council employees including membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and continuous service.

We work closely with partners in the local community and key organisations including Reading Borough Council, policy, public health and voluntary groups. We are responsible for the delivery of children’s social care, early help & prevention, education services (including SEND). This also includes fostering and adoption, the Youth Offending Service and traded services with schools.

Our main aim is to protect and enhance the lives of the children of Reading. We help families find long-term solutions to ensure children lead happy, healthy and successful lives.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our SEND team.

As the Senior SEN Resolution Lead, you will take the lead on dispute resolution and represent the Local Authority in SEND Tribunal cases. You will oversee the statutory assessment, placement, and monitoring of pupils with special educational needs, ensuring compliance with legal frameworks and statutory deadlines. A key part of your role will be supervising and supporting SEN Case Officers and Assistant Case Officers, while also managing complex casework and contributing to the development of high-quality, outcome-focused EHCPs.

In addition, you will analyse trends in appeals and develop strategies to reduce escalation, working closely with legal teams and stakeholders. You will play a strategic role in SEN planning, offering expert advice and ensuring best practices are followed. A vital aspect of the role includes delivering training and sharing specialist SEND knowledge with schools, education providers, and partner organisations to build capacity and improve outcomes across the borough.

We are looking for a dedicated professional with a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience, and at least two years’ experience managing a SEN caseload. You will have a strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and the SEND Tribunal process, along with excellent communication, negotiation, and mediation skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven ability to lead, supervise, and manage complex casework, and will bring a collaborative, person-centred approach to working with families, schools, and professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

For more information about the role, please read the job description and person specification.
