Broomfield SILC is a generic special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with 4 sites: our main site and 3 partnership sites at Windmill Primary, Rodillian Secondary and White Rose Post 16. The SILC is based in the South of Leeds and caters for a wide range of needs from moderate learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; complex and multiple learning needs; Autism and social and emotional and mental health needs. Some students have additional needs – physical; medical; speech and language; visual, hearing or sensory impairment. We are a very popular choice for parents and carers and currently have over 303 pupils on roll.

Broomfield secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted in March 2023 where inspectors commented that leaders have ‘high ambitions’ and ‘high aspirations for all pupils’ and that ‘staff are proud to work in our school’. I am very proud of our school community where staff are committed to supporting young people to fulfil their potential and prepare them fully for their future, particularly focusing on communication, independence, and emotional regulation.

We are exciting to share that our school is going to be rebuilt and will open to an additional 100 young people in September 2027. We are currently in the process of designing and planning the internal and external areas to ensure we will have an environment that fully supports the needs of our learners and our school community.

We are looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Senior Site Manager to provide strategic leadership and management of our premises, facilities, health and safety, security and compliance functions across all school sites.

Working closely with the School Business Manager and Senior Leadership Team, you will have overall responsibility for ensuring our buildings, grounds and facilities are safe, secure, compliant, well maintained and fit for purpose.

The Senior Site Manager will act as the school's Competent Person for Health & Safety, providing professional advice and guidance on statutory compliance, risk management and safe working practices. You will lead the school's approach to premises compliance, planned maintenance, contractor management, procurement, budgets, projects, lettings and site security.

You will also lead and develop the premises team, setting priorities and ensuring high standards of operational delivery across all sites.

This is an important leadership role within the school and provides an opportunity to influence the development of our premises and facilities at a particularly exciting stage in Broomfield's development.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience of facilities, premises or site management.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of health and safety legislation, statutory compliance and risk management.
  • Experience of managing premises and maintenance budgets and achieving value for money.
  • Experience of procuring, managing and monitoring contractors and service providers.
  • Experience of leading, managing and developing staff.
  • Experience of planned preventative maintenance, repairs, refurbishment and premises improvement projects.
  • The ability to develop and implement effective policies, procedures, risk assessments and compliance systems.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to advise senior leaders and work effectively with governors, contractors and external agencies.
  • A proactive, professional and solution-focused approach.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and achieving the best possible environment for our children and young people.
  • Experience of working within a school, public sector or multi-site environment and experience of capital projects and tendering processes would be advantageous.
  • A relevant Health & Safety qualification, or willingness to work towards one, is essential. Qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH, Fire Safety, Legionella or Asbestos Awareness would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for premises, facilities, health and safety, security and compliance across all school sites.
  • Act as the school's lead adviser and Competent Person for Health & Safety.
  • Ensure effective systems are maintained for statutory inspections, testing, risk assessments and compliance.
  • Develop and oversee planned preventative maintenance and premises improvement programmes.
  • Manage facilities-related budgets, procurement and contracts, ensuring effective use of resources and value for money.
  • Commission and monitor contractors, maintenance providers and other external services.
  • Lead and develop the premises team, ensuring clear priorities and high standards of service delivery.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of our buildings, facilities and resources.
  • Work collaboratively with the School Business Manager, Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors.
  • Help ensure that Broomfield provides a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment in which our pupils can learn and our staff can work.

We can offer:

  • A welcoming and caring school with supportive colleagues.
  • An opportunity to play a key role in the development of our school estate during an exciting period of growth and change.
  • A varied and responsible role across a multi-site specialist education setting.
  • A commitment to professional development.
  • A workplace that listens to staff and values their expertise and contribution.
  • The opportunity to make a tangible difference to the environment and experiences of our children and young people.
