Who are JNCC?
Established in 1991, we’re the UK’s statutory advisor on issues affecting the natural environment across the UK and internationally. Our primary role is advising all four Governments of the UK. We also work with private sector organisations to support decision making on the sustainable use of marine waters and natural resources around the UK. JNCC is led by the Joint Committee, which brings together members from the nature conservation bodies for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and independent members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under an independent Chair. Support is provided to the Committee by approx. 300 people who bring together scientific and technical expertise, extensive knowledge of policy at global, European and national levels, and skills in working with other organisations. Staff are based in two main offices in Peterborough and Aberdeen.

JNCC is recruiting an experienced Senior Support Analyst to join the IT Operations and Cyber Security team. The role sits at the centre of day-to-day IT operations and digital transformation, with a strong focus on automation, data governance and Microsoft 365, alongside senior support for on premises systems.
The post holder along with other team members will support and develop JNCC’s Microsoft 365 environment while designing and delivering secure, compliant and automated solutions that improve how staff work at JNCC. The role also provides senior level support for the on-premises infrastructure that underpins JNCC’s network services, both on premises and in the cloud.
Job description
Post Duties:
Automation, AI and Microsoft 365
• Support and enhance JNCC’s Microsoft 365 environment with a strong focus on automation, efficiency and secure service delivery
• Identify, design, build and support Copilot and AI driven automation using Microsoft 365 to improve internal processes and reduce manual effort.
• Work with business areas to understand operational needs and translate them into practical, automated solutions
• Support and develop data governance, classification, retention and information protection using Microsoft Purview, ensuring automated solutions remain compliant by working closely with Data Protection and Information Management specialists.
On Premises Infrastructure and Core Services
• Provide senior second and third line support for on premises infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualised platforms and core backup and recovery services.
• Manage identity and access services, including Active Directory, group policies, user access controls and related identity services.
• Maintain and support core network services, including DNS, DHCP, VPNs and firewall infrastructure.
Operational Support and Continuous Improvement
• Act as an escalation point for complex incidents, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and root causes are identified.
• Document solutions and technical changes, share knowledge with colleagues, and contribute to improving operational maturity.
• Undertake technical research and maintain up to date knowledge of Microsoft 365, automation and security to support JNCC’s digital strategy and future ways of working.
• Act as a trusted IT partner to business areas, building strong relationships to understand priorities, challenge requirements where needed, and shape technology solutions that support organisational objectives.

Technical Experience (Responsibilities)
To be a successful candidate you will have:
• Experience working with Microsoft Purview or similar data governance and compliance tools
• Experience designing or supporting automation using Copilot, AI agents, Power Platform or low code tools
• Proven experience working as a Senior or advanced second/third line IT Support Analyst
• Strong experience supporting Microsoft 365 in a production environment
• Demonstrable experience translating business requirements into practical technical solutions
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Experience supporting and maintaining on premises infrastructure, including Windows Server and Active Directory

Leave entitlement
JNCC annual leave allowance is 25 days per annum. After five years’ service, leave entitlement increases to 30 days per annum.
In addition to annual leave, JNCC offers 12 public and privilege days per annum, three of which are explicitly reserved for office closure between Christmas and New Year.
