We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and want to make a difference in people’s lives in delivering justice. If you’re interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.

Job Description

As a Senior Software Developer at HMCTS you will work with a wide range of stakeholders such as user researchers, product managers, designers, business analysts, delivery managers and digital architects, all of whom share a vision for making better government through smarter use of technology. You will innovate to radically transform public services for the better.

Technologies we rely heavily on:

  • UiPath Studio and UiPath Orchestrator for robotic process automation
  • Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse, for low-code application and workflow development
  • Power Platform solutions, environment configuration and application lifecycle management for controlled delivery
  • Azure for integrations, supporting platform services and infrastructure
  • REST APIs, custom connectors and integration patterns to connect HMCTS services and external systems
  • UK Design System for our web interfaces
  • Macs to do all the above
  • In addition, we use a range of other technologies and continue to evolve by employing new technologies that help us deliver better services to our users

Your role as Senior UiPath Software Developer will encompass several key responsibilities listed below (but not limited to):

  • Design, build, test, deploy and document low-code applications and automations using UiPath and Microsoft Power Platform, following best practice and internal standards.
  • Continuously learn and stay up to date with UiPath, Power Platform and related technologies, identifying opportunities, constraints and technical risks.
  • Ensure product security, data confidentiality, and integrity, raising risks as needed.
  • Support and maintain software, including limited out-of-hours work when required.
  • Plan development, coordinate integration, and contribute to process improvement.
  • Manage service availability effectively and cost-efficiently.
  • Apply appropriate automated testing, peer review, source control and CI/CD practices to low-code and robotic process automation solutions.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and share technical expertise.
  • Take ownership of the technical roadmap and promote best practice across the development lifecycle.
  • Influence product strategy by providing technical insight to stakeholders
  • Design and develop software based on user stories.
  • Participate in recruitment and procurement.

Person Specification:

We’re seeking a low-code developer with the ability to develop and deploy high-quality code. The ideal candidate will have either:

  • Strong hands-on experience with UiPath Studio and UiPath Orchestrator, including the design of automations and reusable workflows.
  • Strong systems integration skills, including REST APIs, JSON, data sources and integration with Azure services.
  • Experience of application lifecycle management and DevOps practices for Power Platform or UiPath, including environments, solutions, source control and CI/CD.
  • A strong understanding of security and governance, data loss prevention policies, Microsoft Entra ID, secrets and credential management, and data protection.
  • Leadership capability, with a proven track record of mentoring developers, setting technical standards and improving engineering practice.
  • Strong testing and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to use scripting or custom code such as JavaScript, TypeScript or C# when low-code alone is not the right solution.

Essential skills

  • Proven experience designing, building and supporting enterprise automations in UiPath Studio and Orchestrator.
  • Monitoring, troubleshooting and fixing failing processes. Building resilience against changes in target applications. Managing robot and licence capacity cost-effectively.
  • Using VB.NET (Invoke Code, custom activities) to extend solutions.
  • Mentoring developers, setting coding standards and review practice, owning a technical roadmap, and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Managing credentials and secrets through Orchestrator credential stores or Key Vault, Microsoft Entra ID, least-privilege robot accounts, and data protection (UK GDPR). Spotting and raising security risks.
  • Strong systems integration skills, including consuming REST APIs over HTTP (methods, headers, authentication such as OAuth 2.0 and bearer tokens, status codes and error handling), working with JSON, and integrating automations with Azure services and other data sources.
