Job summary

The Serious Fraud Office fights complex financial crime, delivers justice for victims and protects the UK’s reputation as a safe place to do business. We take on the crimes that others cannot tackle, often involving huge sums of money, multiple victims, and significant impacts for the UK economy and global reputation.

You will join the SFO's Information Management & Systems team who provide an application management service for iBase, an SQL based database application (officially called i2 Group), to the operating Divisions using it, which total some 180 staff members. The SFO utilises iBase and ANB primarily for capturing, organising, and interrogating its intelligence records.

You will operate our relationship with the service provider, i2 Group, on a regular basis and work with them to overcome technical issues as they arise and to keep the service stable and supported, compliant and up to date.

There is a small working group that you will run, of key users and data owners who help to define, prioritise, and implement agreed changes. You will have opportunities to scope, design, and deliver activities to make amendments to our database design, user interface and security model. You will also be expected to administer access security and other maintenance tasks. Our Digital Systems Manager, who you would report to, is responsible for a broad range of systems that support our investigation and prosecution of economic crime, as well as our more standard corporate systems for Finance, Intel Division etc.

You will facilitate change in our systems and processes by collaborating with a wide range of business users to identify and risk-assess potential changes, define and make agreed amendments, and organise the necessary testing and training; in doing so you will follow a typical system change life cycle. Over time, you may become involved with other related business systems and their related database applications that are the responsibility of the Digital Systems Manager.

  • To train users and help to update guidance and policies as required in line with the SFO’s standards.
  • To be the main point of contact for key suppliers in relation to the i2 Group services utilising the Pro Bundle.
  • To manage a regular working group of other database users/developers, which will prioritise and deliver projects.
