The Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) is a shared corporate service. It provides corporate services (HR, Finance, Digital, Commercial, Security and Estates) across the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT).

Job description

The Role and Our Team

Join Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) and help shape the services that support thousands of colleagues across government. We are a collaborative, forward-looking digital community that combines innovation, technical expertise and user-centred design to deliver high-quality, accessible services. Working openly and solving problems together, we use data and insight to continuously improve the experience for our customers. This role sits within the Shared Services Management team, a high profile function at the heart of how we work with partners to deliver reliable, effective services.

We work closely with our Shared services provider UK Shared Business Services (UKSBS) who deliver Finance, HR, Payroll and procurement services to DESNZ, DSIT and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) as well as several of their Arms length bodies. This gives the team a unique cross-government reach and the opportunity to influence how shared services evolve to better meet user and business needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in the Shared Services Management team as a key point of contact for UKSBS. You will contribute both technical and operational expertise to Oracle change requests, lead on budget reporting and in year true up activity, and support the Head of Shared Services with accurate, insight led information. The role offers broad exposure, meaningful stakeholder engagement and the chance to make a visible impact across shared service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

The postholder will:

Build strong relationships across DSIT, DBT, DESNZ, UKSBS and other partners to support the delivery of shared services that provide an effective and positive user experience.

Support the Head of Shared Services with key activities linked to the team’s transition to the new Shared Services Centre Office, helping to ensure continuity and effective delivery.

Work closely with UKSBS and internal stakeholders to support the Change Board, helping to prioritise Oracle and process change requests, track progress and drive delivery against agreed outcomes.

Lead on financial activity for the team, including invoice management, expenditure reconciliation and budget reporting, ensuring departmental reporting is accurate and Oracle transactional data is robust.

Act as a key liaison between ICS and UKSBS on end-user systems integrations and service issues, helping to resolve problems quickly and maintain confidence in shared services.

Essential Criteria

Excellent prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and adapt quickly as priorities change.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to build effective relationships and work with colleagues at all levels across multiple organisations.

A good understanding of Oracle ERP systems and how they can support stakeholders to make the most of system and process changes.

A strong technical interest, with knowledge of ERP or financial systems and an understanding of how business applications support operational delivery.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines, manage workload effectively and maintain a high standard of delivery.

The ability to deliver at pace across a complex stakeholder landscape, staying resilient under pressure and helping others to do the same.

Strong financial awareness, with the ability to support accurate reporting, reconciliation and budget management.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience of working in a shared service environment.
• Understanding of Oracle and Workday products.
• A financial background and either a current financial qualification or progress towards one.

Office attendance

The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.

  • A hybrid office/home based working model where staff will spend a norm of 40-60% of their time in the office (minimum of 40%) over a month with flex dependent on balancing business and individual need.
