A vacancy has arisen in the Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Youth Offending Service (YOS) for a Social Worker. The successful candidate must have a Social Work qualification or be due to qualify in 2025 and will be based within one of the Court & Community Teams, working on Statutory Court Orders and Out of Court Disposal cases. The main focus of the work will be to manage and provide services to children aged between 10-17 years of age who are involved in offending or Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB). They will also work to prevent further offending or ASB incidents.

The post will require the holder to work in partnership with the local statutory and voluntary sector services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to fill this permanent post to support the overall aim of the YOS in reducing offending by children. Therefore, you will need to demonstrate a proven ability to engage children and make a positive impact with the work you will be delivering as part of our multi agency Youth Offending Service. In achieving these aims, you will work closely with families and/or carers to address the factors leading to offending.

You will be required to contribute to accurate and timely electronic records in accordance with the Youth Justice Board’s National Standards. Therefore, IT skills are essential for this role, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The successful applicant will need to be flexible and innovative with the ability to deliver a high-quality service.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 2nd December 2025, an alternative date for interview cannot be offered.

For the role, we ask that you have:

  • A Diploma/Degree in Social Work or predecessor.
  • A high standard of report and case recording skills.
  • Experience of working with children and young people, their families and carers.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business purposes to travel throughout the borough to attend meetings.

You must possess a Diploma/Degree in Social Work or predecessor and be registered as a Social Worker with Social Care Wales (or able to transfer from another recognised body).

The current registration requirements state that completion of the Consolidation of Practice qualification within your first 3 years of practice is mandatory (if you qualified after 1st April 2016). Failure to successfully complete this qualification will result in you being unable to renew your Social Work Registration or practice as a Social Worker.
