Specialist Support Worker - Complex Needs
Our Vacancy
Outreach Support Worker – Be the Link That Changes Lives
Are you someone who’s confident, compassionate, and ready to make a real difference in the lives of people facing some of life’s toughest challenges? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments, love building trust, and believe everyone deserves a second chance? If so, this could be the role for you.
We’re looking for an Outreach Support Worker to join our Severe and Multiple Disadvantage Service in Southend. You’ll be working with rough sleepers and ex-rough sleepers—people who’ve experienced exclusion, trauma, and complex needs—and helping them access the support they need to live independently and with dignity.
What your day might look like:
- Start by checking in with residents at our Complex Needs hostel.
- Head out into the community to connect with individuals who are traditionally hard to engage.
- Help people access treatment, health services, and housing options.
- Provide advice on welfare benefits, financial wellbeing, and tenancy rights.
- Advocate for customers and support them in making informed choices about their lives.
- Work closely with partner agencies to build a network of support around each individual.
What makes this role special:
You’ll be part of a team that doesn’t give up. You’ll meet people where they are—literally and emotionally—and help them take steps toward stability, wellbeing, and inclusion. You’ll be working in a psychologically informed environment, where empathy, patience, and persistence are key.
This is a role where your presence matters. Your ability to listen, support, and advocate will help people feel seen, heard, and empowered.
Could it be you?
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with people with complex needs
- Can provide support in both hostel and outreach settings
- Understands safeguarding, housing rights, and welfare benefits
- Is confident working independently and using initiative
- Has great communication skills and a non-judgmental approach
- Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a car
- Is happy to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
What you’ll get in return:
- 25 days’ annual holiday (plus bank holidays)
- 2 paid volunteering days each year
- Flexible benefits scheme including healthcare, dental, tech, vouchers, and more
- Life assurance at 4x your salary
- Up to 10% pension contribution
- Family-friendly policies
- Access to professional development and training
