We have an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Intelligence Analyst to join Southampton City Council’s Data & Intelligence Team on a fixed term basis until 31 March 2029, with the potential for the role to be extended.

About the role:

You will work across a broad range of council services, using data, analysis and intelligence to help colleagues understand performance, identify trends and issues, and make evidence based decisions. This is a varied analytical role covering everything from interactive dashboards and performance reporting through to strategic analysis and needs assessments.

You will work with data from a range of different sources, bringing it together to identify patterns, trends and areas for further investigation. A key part of the role will be translating complex information into clear and accessible insight for different audiences, ensuring analysis answers the question behind the data rather than simply reporting the numbers.

You will also support the development of our reporting and analytical capability, including the use of Power BI and other BI and analytical tools, and contribute to improving data quality, consistency and how information is used across the organisation.

About you:

We are looking for someone with strong analytical skills and experience of delivering high quality analysis from complex datasets. You should be confident working independently, managing analytical projects from initial requirements through to delivery, and working with stakeholders to understand what they need from the data.

You will need to be comfortable communicating complex findings clearly to both technical and non technical audiences, including senior managers and decision makers. Experience of tools such as Power BI, SQL, GIS, Excel, R or other analytical and statistical software would be valuable, although we are particularly interested in your ability to apply analytical thinking and select the right approach for the question.

This would suit someone who is curious, organised and comfortable working across different subject areas. You will be joining a collaborative Data & Intelligence Team with opportunities to work on a diverse range of analytical projects and develop your knowledge across the council.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £43,150 - £47,664 per annum. The starting salary is £43,150 with annual progression through the salary bands.
