Ex‑Police/PCSO/warden? Put your skills to work tackling environmental crime — investigations, evidence, FPNs and court-ready case files.

Join a frontline enforcement team tackling fly‑tipping, littering and environmental crime through investigation, engagement, and action. If you’re calm under pressure and motivated by making a visible difference, this role is for you.

About the role

As a Street Scene Enforcement Officer, you’ll be on the frontline tackling environmental crime across the borough. From investigating fly‑tipping and littering to working alongside the Police and other partners, you’ll play a vital role in protecting our neighbourhoods through a balanced approach of education, engagement, and enforcement.

This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You’ll be out in the community one day and preparing case files or attending court the next – all while being part of a supportive, motivated team that takes real pride in getting results.

What you’ll be doing

  • Investigating environmental offences such as fly‑tipping, littering, waste misuse, and abandoned vehicles
  • Gathering evidence, interviewing suspects and witnesses, and preparing professional case files
  • Issuing Fixed Penalty Notices where appropriate
  • Attending court and giving evidence on behalf of the Council
  • Working closely with partners including the Police, Environment Agency, Parish Councils, and community groups
  • Supporting education and awareness work to deter environmental crime
  • Patrolling neighbourhoods and responding to reports from residents
  • Maintaining accurate records and performance data

You’ll also take part in a rota for out‑of‑hours stray dog duties (with standby arrangements in place).

What we’re looking for

You’ll be resilient, professional, and able to handle challenging situations with confidence and empathy. You’ll enjoy working outdoors, engaging with a wide range of people, and making evidence‑based decisions.

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Experience in an enforcement, investigation, or similar regulatory role
  • Confident dealing with confrontational or sensitive situations
  • Strong written skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate reports for legal proceedings
  • Excellent communication and conflict‑resolution skills
  • Good IT skills and the ability to organise your own workload

A full UK driving licence is essential, and the role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.

What we offer

  • An attractive basic salary within a clear pay structure
  • Flexible working hours (8 to 4 or 9 to 5) and some home working
  • 22 days annual leave, rising to 27 days after 5 years continuous Local Government service, plus bank holidays and an additional 3 days in December.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme - CARE – Career Average (Revalued Earnings) Pension Scheme – Employer contribution of 19.7%.
  • Uniform, equipment and a work vehicle provided for duties.
  • Free parking
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
  • A supportive, close‑knit team that values collaboration and achievement.
  • The Council has partnered with Health Assured to provide staff with access to EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) to assist in balancing everyday life with the requirement of work and home.
  • Take a look here at all the additional benefits that we offer.

Why work with us?

You’ll be joining a progressive team that supports one another, celebrates success, and genuinely enjoys working together. This is a role where your work has a direct, visible impact on the places people live and work every day.

Ready to make a difference?

If you’re motivated by public service, environmental protection, and community wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.
