Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
Job IntroductionWe’re recruiting a Supply and Acquisitions Officer to join our Housing Solutions service at Milton Keynes City Council.
Our Housing Solutions team plays an important role in helping people access safe, suitable and affordable accommodation across Milton Keynes. Working closely with property owners, landlords, partners and internal services, we help secure accommodation that supports homelessness prevention, temporary accommodation needs and housing duties.
In this rewarding role, you’ll help increase the supply of quality homes available to the council, manage a large portfolio of accommodation, carry out inspections and assessments, and build strong relationships with landlords and accommodation providers. Your work will directly support local people and help us deliver decent, affordable homes, one of the key priorities for Milton Keynes.

Role Responsibilities- Deliver a high-quality supply and acquisitions service that secures suitable and affordable accommodation for Housing Solutions and other council services.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with landlords, accommodation providers and external partners to increase the availability of properties.
- Manage a large portfolio of accommodation, carrying out inspections, housing health and safety assessments, contract management activities and compliance checks.
- Provide advice and guidance on fees, incentives, standards, policies and accommodation options to partners, customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records, monitor performance information and ensure case management systems are updated within required timescales.
- Use negotiation, problem solving and risk assessment skills to achieve positive outcomes for residents, landlords and the council.
- A qualification relating to housing, property, surveying, environmental health or a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience gained within a housing, property acquisition or procurement environment.
- You’ll have a good understanding of housing legislation, housing standards, procurement processes and the legal framework that supports accommodation provision.
- An effective negotiator who can build positive relationships with landlords, property owners, partners and colleagues while achieving successful outcomes.
- Experience of managing a varied workload, making informed decisions and delivering work accurately within deadlines.
- Comfortable carrying out property inspections, assessing risks as categorised under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, taking appropriate action to address concerns following a property visit, and maintaining high-quality records and data.
