An exciting opportunity has become available for a Team Manager in the Preparing for Adulthood team in Rotherham Adult Social Care.

At Rotherham, we believe that every young person should be supported to move into adulthood with ambition, purpose and opportunity. We are looking for an exceptional Team Manager to lead our Preparing for Adulthood Team, driving high-quality transition planning and ensuring young people and their families experience a seamless journey into adult life.

This is an exciting opportunity to manage a specialist team at the heart of our partnership between Children's and Adult Services. You will champion a culture where aspirations come first, where young people are supported to achieve independence, develop meaningful relationships, access employment and education opportunities, and build lives connected to their communities.

About the Team

Our Preparing for Adulthood Team works with young people from the age of 14 onwards who are likely to require support from Adult Social Care.

The team has a unique and influential role in supporting young people, families and professionals to plan positively for adulthood and ensure that transitions are proactive, coordinated and focused on outcomes rather than services.

We are ambitious for our young people and believe they should have the same opportunities as everyone else to:

  • Live independently and safely.
  • Develop friendships and relationships.
  • Access employment, education and training.
  • Participate in their communities.
  • Have choice and control over their lives.
  • Achieve their goals and aspirations.

This is an area of practice that is continually evolving, offering exciting opportunities to innovate, influence system-wide change and improve outcomes for future generations of young people in Rotherham.

About the Role

You will provide leadership to a skilled and committed team, creating an environment where professional curiosity, innovation and strengths-based practice thrive. You will support practitioners to work creatively with young people and families, ensuring plans are built around aspirations, outcomes and opportunities rather than limitations.

You will play a key role in strengthening partnerships across Children's Social Care, SEND Services, Education, Health and Adult Social Care, helping to remove barriers and create pathways that support young people to flourish as adults.

About You

You will be a registered Social Worker with substantial experience within Adult Social Care and a strong understanding of Children’s legislation and transition practice.

You will bring:

  • Strong and inspirational leadership skills.
  • Experience of developing and supporting high-performing teams.
  • A passion for strengths-based, relationship-focused practice.
  • The ability to build credibility and influence across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience of managing complexity, risk and change.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
  • A genuine belief in the potential of young people and their families.

You will have a comprehensive understanding of the legislative and policy framework that underpins preparing for adulthood and transition work, including:

  • Care Act 2014.
  • Children Act 1989 and 2004.
  • Children and Families Act 2014.
  • SEND Code of Practice.
  • Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children.
  • Safeguarding Adults Procedures.
  • Continuing Healthcare Framework.
  • Education, Health and Care Plan processes.
  • National Preparing for Adulthood principles and pathways.

Why Join Us?

Rotherham is on an exciting journey to transform Adult Social Care and strengthen how we support young people moving into adulthood.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a service that genuinely changes lives, working alongside passionate colleagues who are ambitious for the people they serve.

In return, we offer:

  • A supportive and progressive leadership culture.
  • Opportunities to influence strategic development and service transformation.
  • Professional development and career progression.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • A comprehensive employee benefits package.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people, families and communities across Rotherham.
