Job Title: Technical Officer Environmental Protection Team
Salary: £39,027 to £44,463 per annum (pro rata to hours worked as part-time)
Grade: E
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 22.5 hours per week

About the department

Environmental Protection is a core Environmental Health function that completes a number of enforcement regimes and fulfils Thurrock statutory obligations in this specialist work area.

About the Role

To enable the teams statutory duties for investigating nuisance and public health investigations in the Tilbury St Chads, Tilbury Riverside and Thurrock Park, Chadwell St Mary, East Tilbury, Orsett, Horndon and Bulphan wards.

The postholder will also assist the Environmental Health Officers (EHO's) in their investigations to gather evidence from site visits and complete prosecution files.

There is opportunity (once suitable experience gained) for the post holder to join the department's weekend night time noise enforcement team where additional overtime is paid.

As an EP Technical Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Investigating complaints of statutory nuisance and EP public health matters
  • Assisting Pollution Control officers with their statutory obligations and enforcement regimes
  • Completing other relevant work tasks that the team manager deems appropriate

This role offers the chance to make a real difference by working closely with Thurrock residents, local businesses, property / land owners, other council enforcement teams, Police, government agencies and elected members.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • excellent computer skills
  • excellent written and verbal skills
  • is familiar with the uniform database
  • good local government experience
  • ideally with some experience in environmental health / enforcement

Essential qualifications: Good passes at GCSE in Maths, English and Sciences. A level or equivalent qualifications would be beneficial to the role.
