Job Description

Job Title: Technical Support Officer - Support & Performance Team
Salary: £33,531 - £38,052 per annum
Grade: D
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

We are seeking a Technical Support Officer sitting within the Support and Performance Team, Place Directorate. The main purpose of the role is to support Thurrock Council’s Place service via our Support and Performance Services Department.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and technical support across Development Management, Building Control and Land Charges ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and council procedures.
  • Oversee the registration, validation, and digital management of planning and building control applications, ensuring compliance with national and local requirements.
  • Provide first-line support (supervision) and guidance to team members, including training on systems, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Monitor team performance and contribute to service improvement by maintaining accurate records, tracking KPIs, and reporting outcomes.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external stakeholders, and the public to resolve enquiries and ensure high-quality customer service.
  • Support the maintenance of accurate records and filing systems (both paper and digital), including data input and extraction using various IT systems.
  • Represent the team at meetings and briefings, providing feedback and ensuring actions are followed up appropriately.
  • Work flexibly and adaptively

Key Skills and Experience:

You will need to be willing to work flexibly and able to work on your own initiative. You will need to enjoy working in a team that works to very demanding but achievable timescales. The team delivers a high standard of service to our customers which is essential in the growth and development of Thurrock.

The service operates from 8:00am to 17:00pm Monday to Friday
