Job description
As a Test Engineer within the Welsh Revenue Authority’s (WRA) Digital team, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and resilience of our cloud services. You will work across the full testing lifecycle, applying both manual and automated testing techniques to validate user focused solutions that support tax administration in Wales.
You will collaborate closely with developers, analysts, and delivery teams in an agile environment to embed testing early and effectively. Your work will directly contribute to the delivery of secure, accessible, and robust services that meet the needs of our users.

Test Design & Execution
- Analyse requirements and collaborate with analysts to create thorough test scenarios.
- Design and deliver comprehensive test cases and plans aligned with business and technical objectives.
- Apply manual, automated and exploratory testing strategies to validate functionality across systems.
- Execute tests, record results accurately and report defects clearly.
- Track defects through their lifecycle, ensuring timely resolution and
- Test for non-functional requirements including accessibility, performance, security, compatibility and integration.
- Verify fixes and perform regression testing to maintain quality across
- Ensure service consistency across devices, browsers and operating
- Adopt risk-based testing approaches to prioritise coverage and optimise

- Support UAT and release readiness checks where required.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the overall test strategy by providing feedback and suggesting enhancements based on project experience.
Automation & CI/CD Integration
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.
- Embed automated tests within CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins) to enable rapid feedback and early defect detection.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows using Git and Azure DevOps, applying BDD/TDD practices where appropriate.
- Ensure robust version control and change management for all automated scripts.
- Drive continuous improvement of automation frameworks and testing processes to increase efficiency and reliability.
- Support full automation of testing across environments to reduce manual effort and accelerate delivery.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Publish regular test status reports, highlighting progress, defects and risks.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders on testing progress, risks and
- Work closely with developers to form a shared understanding of the codebase and agree on functionality to be covered.
- Collaborate with business analysts to ensure acceptance tests reflect required business scenarios.
