Job summary

What you’ll do…

For the role at Fineshade NN17 3BB:

You will drive a tractor undertaking mowing of open areas, rides and track edges, flailing bramble and other woody material, using a range of tractor mounted implements (mowers, side arm flails, mulchers and grip cleaners).

For the role at Market Rasen LN8 3RQ:

You will drive a tractor undertaking ground preparation for restocking of recently felled sites, using tractor mounted mulchers and hydraulic scarifiers. Role may include mowing of open areas, rides and track edges, using a range of tractor mounted implements as needed.

Job description

Market Rasen

  • Operate the district tractor to carry out a mulching and scarifying on recently felled woodland sites.
  • Maintain a high standard meeting health and safety and environmental guidance.
  • Work effectively as part of a small team and responding quickly to unexpected work and issues raised by the Establishment forester.
  • Maintain the tractor and implements to a high standard undertaking minor repairs as needed and working closing with mechanical engineering, reporting mechanical problems in a timely manager.
  • represent Forestry England well when talking to contractors, customers, visitors, stakeholders and when working with volunteers.

Fineshade

  • Operate the district tractor to carry out a range operation including mowing & flailing of roadside, rides and open space.
  • Maintain a high standard, meeting health and safety and environmental guidance.
  • Work effectively as part of a small team, responding quickly to unexpected work and issues raised by the forester or forestry works supervisor.
  • Maintain, restore, and create various habitats for ecological benefit and to improve the landscape.
  • Maintain the tractor and implements to a high standard, undertaking minor repairs as needed and working closely with mechanical engineering, reporting mechanical problems in a timely manner.
  • Represent Forestry England well when talking to contractors, customers, visitors, stakeholders and when working with volunteers.

And any other tasks, reasonably requested by your line manager.

Person specification

Essential professional and technical experience

  • Experience of operating a tractor.
  • Experience of practical work in the countryside and a general understanding of forestry, nature conservation and countryside-related issues.
  • Familiarity with a variety of tools used for maintaining the tractor and ability to demonstrate competence in their use.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Experience with tractor mounted implements

Qualifications

Essential

  • A GCSE in Maths and English or functional skills equivalent.

Desirable

  • Qualification in first aid at work or willing to be suitably trained.
  • NPTC forest machine operator’s certificate in base machine (wheeled ridged).
  • NPTC forest machine operator’s certificate in mechanical flails and mulchers.
