Trading Standards Accredited Financial Investigator

We're looking for an experienced and motivated Accredited Financial Investigator (AFI) to join our ambitious Trading Standards Service.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking part-time hours or job-share arrangements and are happy to discuss flexible working options to help attract the right person to join our team.
You may be recently retired from another enforcement agency and would be interested to focus on financial investigation for only a few days a week.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead complex financial investigations using powers under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA), helping to recover criminal assets and ensure offenders do not profit from crime. You will work on confiscation, restraint, money laundering investigations, cash seizures, and asset recovery, preparing cases for court and working with partner agencies including HMRC, the National Crime Agency and regional enforcement teams.

The successful candidate will spend 4 days of their time supporting Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and 1 day of their time delivering financial investigation work for Veritau Public Sector.

Veritau is owned by local authorities across England, providing assurance services to a large and growing number of public sector organisations. Their aim is to provide highly regarded services which adds value for their clients. They undertake a wide range of services, including counter fraud, internal audit and information governance. Protecting the public purse is essential, particularly at a time when resources are under increased pressure.

About You
You will:
  • Hold current Accredited Financial Investigator status.
  • Have substantial experience of financial investigations, confiscation and money laundering cases.
  • Be experienced in preparing and presenting evidence in court.
  • Possess strong analytical, communication and partnership-working skills.
  • Be committed to protecting consumers, supporting legitimate businesses and delivering high-quality outcomes.
