Are you a motivated and enthusiastic individual looking for an excellent opportunity? We invite you to become a part of Waltham Forest Council's Trading Standards Service.
Role Purpose: In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering specialist investigative support and advice for Regulatory Services, focusing on trading standards and consumer protection. Your expertise will help ensure compliance with relevant legislation and safeguard consumer rights.

Key Responsibilities:
- Investigative Support: Conduct thorough investigations into trading standards violations and consumer protection issues.
- Expert Advice: Provide specialist advice to colleagues and stakeholders on trading standards legislation and enforcement.
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor and enforce compliance with trading standards regulations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with team members, colleagues from other regulatory services, and external stakeholders to resolve cases and complete project work.
- Flexible Working: Be prepared to carry out duties at flexible times, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Candidate Requirements:
- Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of trading standards legislation and enforcement practices.
- Professional Qualification: Hold an appropriate professional qualification in trading standards or a related field.
- Skills: Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail.
- Initiative and Pressure Handling: Show the ability to work independently and manage tasks under pressure.
- Adaptability: Be adaptable and willing to work at flexible times, including evenings and weekends.
Work Environment: You will be expected to perform both office-based work and site visits as part of your investigative duties. Collaboration with team members and external stakeholders is essential to successfully fulfilling the role's responsibilities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Applicants must hold a professional Trading Standards Qualification such as:
- Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate/Diploma (TSPC/D), or
- Diploma in Consumer Affairs & Trading Standards (DCATS), or
- Diploma in Trading Standards (DTS)/Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA), or
- Degree in Consumer Protection (i.e. BSc).
- or passed the Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship or the Level 6 Apprenticeship

Salary range
