Leicestershire Police is looking for inspirational and innovative leaders ready for promotion in the rank of Sergeant to support the force in delivering our duty and public pledge to protect the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Leicestershire Police serve an area covering 2,500 square miles with a population of over 1.1 million. It covers a wide geographical area ranging from the diverse communities of Leicester City to the surrounding market towns and rural communities of Leicestershire and Rutland. Neighbourhood policing is well embedded and collaboration with East Midlands partners is key to our success.
Leicestershire Police are looking for officers who can demonstrate and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and act as role models for the teams they will be overseeing. Officers should take pride in their delivery and promotion of providing a quality service to victims, especially surrounding VAWG and demonstrate your investigation skills with positive outcomes.
You will need to exhibit excellent front-line leadership skills with a high level of performance, which will lead to the delivery of positive victim outcomes. There is a requirement for you to have a strategic awareness of Leicestershire Police and be adept at problem solving, using the National Decision-Making Model (NDM). It is expected that you develop an understanding of the community / area that you may be posted to.
Successful officers should note that they must be prepared to be posted to any role and locality that meets the requirements of organisational need.

- Substantive Police Constables who have a valid and in-date NPPF Sergeants examination pass or OSPRE accreditation
Eligibility Criteria
- Completed probationary period and have completed two years’ service (or three years’ service in the case of PCDA)
- No live written improvement notices issued under the Police (Performance) Regulations 2020 or reduction in rank under those procedures in the previous 12 months, beginning with the date of the notice
- No live written warning, final written warning or extended final written warning issued under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020
- Not currently under PSD investigation
- Demonstrate a good level of attendance, using Leicestershire Police attendance management policy as a benchmark e.g. not exceeding 3 periods and / or 9 days absence in the preceding 12-month period from the date of this advert.
- Be a member of a Home Office force or Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) or Police Scotland (please note we cannot accept an application to transfer from an officer serving with a non-Home Office police force.
The Recruitment Process:
Stage 1 - Your application:
Please complete the full application form. You will need to provide evidence of why you wish to transfer to Leicestershire Police and why you believe you are ready for promotion. .
Stage 2 - Interview:
You will be interviewed by two senior officers who will assess you against the Competency and Values Framework and also your commitment to Leicestershire Police and the challenges that we face as a county. Those shortlisted for interview will need to provide the following:-
- Confirmation that their NPPF Exam pass is in date.
- Copy of their last PDR or equivalent.
- Data sets that include detection rates and finalised crimes, PDR and sickness compliance. This will be confirmed on the invite to interview if you are shortlisted and will be linked to your role.
Stage 3 - Pre-employment checks:
If you are successful at the interview, you will be invited in for a medical, drug and fitness test. We will also carry out vetting checks and contact your current force HR department and line manager for employment references. Vetting level will be dependent on your rank and role.
Stage 4 Final offer:
Provided that you meet the above checks, we will write to you offering you a position with us and organise a start date.
