Somercotes Parish Council are looking to fill the vacancies detailed below:

Administrative Assistant

20 hours per week

SCP: 14-17 (£15.31 - £16.08) per hour

We are looking for an enthusiastic and supportive team player to manage room bookings at the parish hall and provide admin support for all parish council functions. This is a customer facing position and the successful candidate will have excellent customer care skills as they act as the first line contact for the council.

The position involves the management and administration of all hall room bookings in addition to providing admin support to the clerk and other staff members. There is also a requirement to carry out general caretaking duties including regular hall safety checks and the arrangement of routine servicing visits. The ideal candidate will have a positive can-do attitude, experience in a similar role and the willingness to go the extra mile to deliver great customer service.

Clerk to the Council

15 hours per week

SCP: 27-32/hr (£19.81 - £22.20) (dependant on qualifications and experience)

We are looking for an experienced parish clerk to head up a small team dedicated to providing quality services to the community.

If you have the drive and focus to embrace the challenges and opportunities arising from local government reorganisation then we want to hear from you.

You will need to be forward thinking with a positive outlook and the ability to develop and deliver timely, quality and innovative services.

You will ensure that all legal, statutory, financial and other governing provisions are observed. Ideally you will possess the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CilCA).

You will be leading a small cohesive team with a shared desire to serve the local community. You will have proven and demonstrable leadership and staff management experience in a similar role. You will be a team player but equally happy working independently. You will be required to attend all council and sub committee meetings and ensure that they are properly administered and that decisions are effectively implemented. You will be proactive in developing healthy working partnerships with key local and regional bodies.

You will be flexible in your approach, have the ability to prioritise conflicting demands and present a friendly professional manner at all times.

Responsible Financial Officer

12 hours per week

SCP: 24-27 (£18.35 - £19.81) (dependant on qualifications and experience)

If you have excellent financial, Committee and administrative experience in a local authority or similar environment, ideally understand local government financial systems and procedures, accounts, payroll, budget setting and monitoring, risk management and controls, this post is ideal.

Working as part of a small team, you will assist the Clerk to the Council in the effective and proper administration, management and control of the Council’s financial affairs by maintaining proper financial systems, records and controls, preparing and monitoring the Council’s budgets, organising the payroll, ensuring that the Council complies with all requirements of Internal and External Audit, managing all aspects of insurance and the asset register and reporting to the Council and Committees.

The person most suited to this post will be an excellent team player with a positive outlook and a can-do approach. They will possess excellent numerical, analytical, communication, and IT skills. In addition they will possess the ability to maintain a professional approach when faced with competing priorities and deadlines.
