An exciting opportunity exists in the South Atlantic for a full-time vet to join our small, busy and very varied practice in the Falkland Islands starting in March 2026

The Role

The Veterinary Services of the Falkland Islands Government invites applications for the post of Veterinary Officer (clinical).

The position consists of a combination of clinical (80%) and public health duties (20% - assisting the Public Health Vet). The clinical work is truly mixed practice (60% small animals, 20% equine and 20% livestock) including occasional wildlife cases. The basic public health duties include inspections and audits of fishing vessels and one small red meat production establishment. Full training will be provided to the right candidate.

Routine hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, with a set lunch break between 12-1pm and the out of hours emergency service is worked on a 1:3 rota system.

The Person

You should have at least 5 years’ clinical experience. Ideally that will include a livestock and/or equine bias with general practice level of small animal medicine and surgical skills. Previous public health experience is not essential. You should preferably have Official Veterinarian qualifications or must be willing to obtain them to allow you to sign export health certificates for PETs movements and product export.

The Package

  • Initial 2-4 Years Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
  • Salary Range £47k-64k, starting salaries will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
  • Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights Package for you and your dependents, including annual return flight home.
  • Government Housing for rent at a subsidised rate and a starter pack to help you settle in.
