An exciting opportunity exists in the South Atlantic for a full-time vet to join our small, busy and very varied practice in the Falkland Islands starting in July 2026

The Role

The Veterinary Services of the Falkland Islands Government invites applications for the post of Veterinary Officer (clinical).

The clinical work is truly mixed practice (50% small animals, 25% equine and 25% livestock) including occasional wildlife cases. There is opportunity to participate in farm audits, disease eradication programmes and learn public health duties to assist the public health veterinarian. This is a truly community-based role that supports the agricultural industry of the Falklands as well as looking after domestic pets.

Routine hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, with a set lunch break between 12-1pm and the out of hours emergency service is worked on a 1:3 rota system.

The Person

You should have at least 5 years’ clinical experience; however, while we cannot support a new graduate at this time if you are a keen mixed practitioner with less than 5 years’ experience please do get in touch. Ideally experience will include a livestock and/or equine bias with general practice level of small animal medicine and surgical skills. Previous public health experience is not essential. You should preferably have Official Veterinarian qualifications or must be willing to obtain them to allow you to sign export health certificates for PETs movements.

The Package

• Initial 1-2 Years Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
• Salary Range £47k-64k, starting salaries will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
• Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity, paid upon successful completion of the contract.
• 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).
• Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
• Flights Package for you and your dependents, including annual return flight home.
• Government Housing for rent and a starter pack to help you settle in.
