Job summary
In this role, you are a key point of contact for victims, ensuring they receive clear, timely and empathetic communication about their case. You draft written correspondence, communicate with victims by the designated method of contact, respond to enquiries and complaints, and arrange meetings where appropriate, always ensuring victims’ needs are understood and addressed.The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. We do consider part-time working patterns, however this needs to be agreed by the hiring area and must be in line with business needs.

Job description
As a Victim Liaison Assistant, you support the work of the Crown Prosecution Service by providing a professional and compassionate service to victims of crime. You handle a varied caseload and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure victims are kept informed and supported throughout the prosecution process.
Your role and responsibilities :
- You draft clear, accurate and well‑written letters to victims of crime in plain English, ensuring all relevant issues are addressed within prescribed timescales. You communicate with victims within the agreed timescales, by the designated manner of contact.
- You record all correspondence and activity accurately on the Case Management System.
- You respond to victim enquiries, complaints and Victims’ Right to Review requests by phone, email and letter, using the victims’ preferred method of contact.
- You arrange and, where appropriate, attend meetings with victims and witnesses, making reasonable adjustments to meet individual needs.
- You manage your own caseload, prioritising cases involving vulnerable or intimidated victims, and ensuring agreed timescales are met.
- You liaise with prosecutors, Witness Care Units and external agencies to ensure victims and witnesses receive appropriate information and support.
- You escalate issues to managers where necessary and keep victims informed if timescales can't be met.
- You apply Crown Prosecution Service values at all times and act as a positive role model within the team.
- You maintain awareness of relevant policies such as the Victims’ Code, Victims Right to Review and complaints procedures, and apply them correctly.
- You ensure all work meets quality and performance standards and contributes to continuous improvement within the service.
Person specification
To be eligible to apply for this opportunity, you must:
• Have excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills - including knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
• Have an interest in criminal law and public service
• Be aged 18 before starting in this role.
The start date is expected to be 8-12 weeks after the application deadline.

First stage – online test and application

Second stage – video interview
If you pass the first recruitment stage, you are invited to a video interview. Invitations to the video interviews are emailed separately directly from our recruitment team. These are sent on the 6 Mayfull guidance and instructions for the video interview process are provided with your invitation.

Third stage – final interview
If you pass the second recruitment stage, you're invited to an interview with a Crown Prosecution Service panel. You’re given full guidance and instructions about this process with your invitation.
Interviews take place from 22 June - 17 July through Microsoft Teams.

Interview

Making offers
You can provide three office location preferences. If you’re successful, we offer using your choices in the first instance.
Results will be issued week commencing 20 July.
The number of offers may differ subject to business needs.
Once appointments have been made under the location merit list process, any remaining candidates who have passed stay on a reserve list for 12 months. You may be offered an alternative role or location from the reserve list.
If you’re offered a position that you can’t accept because of extenuating circumstances, you may be able to stay on the reserve list. However, it expires 12 months after the interviews take place and positions for your first preference can’t be guaranteed.
Clearance
If successful, you are required to secure a Disclosure and Barring Service check, for which you must have a current valid UK address.
If successfully appointed, we ask you to complete a character enquiry form and nationality and immigration questionnaire.
If you're a Crown Prosecution Service member of staff, you won’t need to do a Disclosure and Barring Service check as you already hold this clearance.
The job you’re applying for is covered by Article 3(a) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, consequently Section 4(2) of that Act doesn’t apply.You’re required to disclose all previous convictions and cautions including spent convictions. Failing to make a full declaration will result in withdrawing your offer of employment if our checks reveal convictions that haven’t been disclosed.
To be cleared to Security Clearance level, you have to be able to meet the residency requirement in the Cabinet Office guidance. For the Crown Prosecution Service they are:
- Security Clearance – three years within the last five years.
Reserve list only
Please note that these roles are advertised as reserve list only. Candidates are to be placed on a reserve list for up to 12 months and may be offered a post if a vacancy arises during this period.
