Job summary
Would you like to join a close-knit and encouraging team of in-house designers creating work for the Royal Air Force?
We are Air Media Centre, the in-house design studio and print department for HQ Air Command. Our work includes design consultancy across branding, design, multimedia, and print; video, animation, and motion graphics production; digital and print-based design; and the production of printed material that ranges from operational documents to communication and engagement material.
You will work on a wide range of creative briefs, from small campaigns to one-off projects, all within the framework of our brand guidelines. These could include video, animation/motion graphics, infographics and digital, including short-form content for social media, as well as print. Our work focuses on telling engaging stories, to both our internal and external audiences.
You will lead your own projects (with line management support), coordinating timeframes and working closely with both civilian and military staff. Within our established design studio, we will give you the opportunity and support to develop your technical skills. Job description
Main requirements of the post:
- Work as part of a team with designers, digital printers, and our wider RAF Media and Communications colleagues, to deliver creative solutions that meet the needs of our clients from across the Royal Air Force.
- Apply design thinking, collaborating closely with RAF Media and Communications colleagues, videographers, clients and stakeholders to discuss and understand the business objectives and requirements of the project.
- Interpret and analyse the client’s business needs, understanding the audience, considering practical and innovative solutions and developing creative ideas/concepts to deliver the message.
- Create work to the agreed timeframes, adhering to copyright law, Defence brand rules, design standards and accessibility guidelines.
- Evaluate client feedback and apply lessons learnt.
- Deliver excellent customer service, demonstrating an understanding of client’s priorities and constraints.
- Occasional ad-hoc travel to RAF sites for filming.
Person specification
Essential criteria:
- Minimum of a QCF Level 5 qualification in a design or media-related subject (DipHE, foundation degree, HND or equivalent).
- In-depth knowledge of industry-standard software (i.e. Adobe CC, including After Effects and Premiere Pro).
- Excellent video, animation, and motion graphics skills.
- Excellent typographic and layout skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of clarifying client objectives and planning a design approach.
- Experience of communicating clearly, with confidence, to present and explain ideas to clients.
- Good team working skills.
- Desire to constantly develop and improve yourself.
