We are looking for a full-time Waste and Recycling Operations Manager to work at based at our Farmhouse Depot on Canvey Island. This is a really exciting time to join Castle Point as we modernise the service in 2026 to meet new Simpler Recycling reforms. You’ll be joining an innovative team, committed to delivering positive change and investing in local services. You will have the opportunity to shape the delivery of services to our residents.

The role includes being the transport manager for the LGV vehicle fleet and be fully accountable as the vehicle licence holder (Certificate of Professional Compliance Qualified) ensuring safe, legal and compliant operation of the vehicle fleet and the vehicle drivers.

You will be responsible for a large team within our Waste and Recycling department including our Waste and Receyling Supervisors and Crews, Workshop Technicians and Apprentices.

You will be a key player in developing the Council’s waste management services in accordance with the Waste & Recycling Strategy and promoting the Council’s key strategic objectives in the provision of quality services working in partnership with other organisations.

Experience

We are looking for a candidate who is highly organised with excellent time management skills with the ability to motivate and drive forward service improvements whilst being sensitive to the political environment.

Experience in the management and operation of refuse and recycling collection services and in team building and people management is highly desirable as is having a pragmatic approach to problem solving, conflict management and driving change to positive outcomes.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a valid Transport Manager CPC Qualification and must also have a current full driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use as there is a requirement to travel within the area.
