About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join North Northamptonshire Council as a Waste Collection Driver/Loader within the Waste team.

The successful candidate will be based at either our Wellingborough or Kettering depot, and work across North Northamptonshire as part of a front line team providing a vital service to local residents. You will work with other team members over various routes that will change daily.

You will need: Class C driving licence, tachograph, up to date CPC qualification and driving experience. You will need to be able to work outside in all weathers, and be able to walk up to 12 miles per day.

You will need to be polite and respectful, representing the Council's values and behaviours at all times.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for the collection of waste from residential and commercial properties, ensuring that we give our residents the best possible service at all times.

As a driver, you will be responsible for the safe operation and control of the vehicle, including daily checks, reporting defects, and regular cleaning of the vehicle.

You will be required to collect and load was receptacles, working in all weathers to provide an essential service. It is a physical role and you will need to be able to walk 12 miles per day.

You will be expected to wear appropriate uniform and protective clothing, work in a safe manner and report any incidents or near misses as they occur.

The role includes some customer service dealing with the public and answering their queries.

About you

You will need to be an experienced driver (Class C), and physically fit as the role can be quite demanding.

You should enjoy working outside in a small team. The crews are self-driven, having to work on their own initiative.

You should have a flexible approach to work with a positive attitude as the role can be varied.
