Job Description

Waste Development Project Officer (Fixed Term)

Dumfries

Band 9: £40,470 - £43,437

Help shape the future of waste services and deliver projects that make a real difference to communities and the environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Waste Development Project Officer to support the delivery of major waste transformation projects across Dumfries and Galloway. This is an exciting opportunity to help implement new national initiatives, legislative changes and innovative approaches that will shape how waste services are delivered in the future.

As part of the Waste Development Team, you will lead and support a range of projects, including initiatives linked to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), the Circular Economy (Scotland) Act and household recycling improvements. You will be responsible for project planning, monitoring, reporting, risk management and benefits realisation, helping ensure successful delivery and positive outcomes.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders, you will help drive service improvements, support compliance with evolving legislation and contribute to transformational change across Waste Services. You will also prepare reports, facilitate project meetings and provide advice on emerging policy and legislative developments.

We are looking for someone with experience in project delivery, programme management, service improvement or change management. You should have excellent organisational and communication skills, be confident managing complex projects and information, and be passionate about sustainability and public service improvement.

In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to significant environmental projects, influence the future direction of waste services and play a key role in delivering sustainable outcomes for Dumfries and Galloway.

This post is fixed term for up to 18 months.
