We are seeking a technical specialist to lead the launch, maintenance and ongoing curation of a new across government intranet site for members of the Government Operational Research Service (GORS). The role will lead on all aspects of engagement with and management of the contracted supplier, and be responsible for all aspects of site maintenance and curation through the sites Content Management System (CMS), ensuring that site content and structure is fully aligned with the professional needs of members of the Government Operational Research Service (GORS).Job description
We are launching a brand-new across government intranet site for the Government Operational Research Service (GORS) profession, with a vision which will see this operate as the central communications platform for this profession. With over 1,400 GORS members across government, this post will play a central and leading role in delivering relevant central communications and information to this important government analytical profession, supporting the continual professional development of this community across government.Person specification
We are looking for someone with the knowledge, skills and/or experience needed to lead and deliver the launch, curation, operation, maintenance and development of this new GORS Members Intranet site.
The successful candidate will need to be able to: balance a variety of priorities; have the flexibility to respond to changes; and the ability to progress work without supervision and manage their own workload.
This role is a great opportunity for a candidate who has skills and/or experience in maintaining a website, use of content management systems, and either has or wishes to develop their skills and experiences in customer management, stakeholder and supplier management, and communications more widely.
The role would suit a proactive and self-motivated individual - as Website Lead the successful candidate will be expected to act on their own initiative, identify opportunities for improvement and then make those improvements happen, all within a team context.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
1) Lead on the launch, curation, maintenance, updating and delivery of the GORS Members Intranet Site
- Lead on the across government Launch of the new GORS Members Intranet Site, co-ordinating with the contracted supplier and other internal stakeholders as required to ensure a successful, smooth, and fully supported launch.
- Lead on sites WordPress Content Management System (CMS), delivering regular content updates (across the content spectrum - text, visual, audio and video), sourcing content from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring content is relevant, engaging, speaking to audience / membership, meeting member and professional needs, and ensuring stability of service and user experience.
- This will involve working closely with many members of the GORS CMU and across government GORS profession groups - including the GORS Marketing Lead, GORS Events Lead, GORS Policy, GORS Learning & Development, GORS recruitment, and other working groups with GORS members across government.
- Technical lead on GORS Members site – ensuring new members to the GORS profession can access the GORS Members site and fielding related queries from members, users and stakeholders. This will include leading on regular engagement with the supplier on any technical issues, concerns and/or problems.
2) Lead on Supplier Management and continuous technical development of the GORS Members Intranet Site
- lead on all aspects of engagement with, and management of, the contracted supplier of the GORS Members Intranet site. This includes all related contract and financial management, such as leading on the operation and renewals of hosting, support, and maintenance services from the supplier.
- lead on all aspects of continuous technical development and improvement to the sites. This will include:
- scoping, researching and identifying possible technical improvements to the sites.
- regular engagement with GORS members to identify new demands and/or desired changes to their members sites.
- engaging with supplier on feasibility and costs.
- engaging within GORS CMU to triangulate and assess desirability of any given potential improvement/s to the member sites.
- leading on delivery of agreed developments and improvements (full cycle - design, build, user testing, roll-out, communication of, and all related supplier engagement).
3) Lead on the management and development of GOV.UK web pages related to the GORS profession
- Collaborate with the GORS Marketing group and other CMU colleagues to deliver changes, updates and improvements to GOV.UK pages and content owned by GORS.
- Act as the organisational admin for the GORS website on the GOV.UK editing platform, managing accounts of other GORS users.
- Ensure all pages and content owned by GORS are in line with GOV.UK style guides and compliant with relevant accessibility legislation.
- Coordinate with other GOV.UK leads across government, notably for other professions within the Analysis Function, to share best practice.
4) Corporate, Development and other supporting Business activities
- Through Website Lead role support the co-ordination of internal communications across GORS, ensuring that communication is sequenced and delivered for the maximum impact.
- Working flexibly and proactively across the GORS Central Management Unit (CMU) team in order to support changes in priorities or additional activities as required (in line with business needs). For example, enhancing the external social media presence of the GORS profession, and liaising with the Analysis Function to enable greater alignment and co-ordination of communications between the GORS profession and the Analysis Function.
- As workload will allow this post will have the opportunity to undertake additional responsibilities on an agreed basis. GORS CMU place a premium on staff development, providing staff development opportunities, and developing their broader set of professional skills and experiences. For example, this could involve leading on and/or contributing to other tasks and activities within GORS CMU, within HMRC, and/or the wider GORS profession across government.
