
Workshop Semi-Skilled / Skilled Technician
Job Description
OverviewThe London Borough of Harrow is recruiting for a Workshop Semi-Skilled / Skilled Technician to maintain and repair vehicles in accordance with the strict H&S regulations, O Licence requirements and DVSA standards. To apply professional technical methods and standards. To communicate with the Workshop Supervisor/Manager during maintenance/repair processes. To complete a given workload in an expected timely manner. To complete and submit all associated documentation in an expected timely manner. Have a willingness to accept technical training from internal and external sources. The successful candidate will respect the equipment provided by Harrow Council to enable duties. Hold, or be prepared to train for, the relevant licences to drive or test vehicles and equipment. To have knowledge of and or willingness to learn H&S regulations, O Licence requirements and DVSA standards for both Light Goods & Heavy Goods Vehicles. Observe the Council’s documented safe working practices and Risk Assessment. Respect documented COSHH handling and storage practices. Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Hold or be willing to undertake NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent qualification in the service, repair and maintenance of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV).
- Hold a current UK Drivers Licence and have a vehicle available for use.
- Experience of ensuring 'O' Licence & DVSA requirements are adhered to in relation to service vehicles and their operation.
- Ability to adapt to changing demands to ensure that objectives are met, overcome problems, and make well-considered decisions.
- Good verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess risk and promote risk awareness without being risk averse.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to equality and diversity.
- Acts as a role model to others in the team, sharing knowledge and experience when necessary whilst respecting and valuing the contribution other team members’ experiences can bring.
Grade 8
- Hold or be willing to undertake NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent qualification in the service, repair and maintenance of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV).
- Hold or be willing to undertake studies for a Class 1 or 2 Driving License
Grade 9
- Hold a City & Guilds, NVQ, level 3 or equivalent qualification in the service, repair, and maintenance of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV).
- Hold or be willing to undertake studies for a Class 1 or 2 Driving License
- Hold or be willing to undertake studies for an MOT License
- Hold or be willing to undertake studies for LOLER Certification (Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998).

Salary range
- £38,610 - £43,950 per year
