The Role
As a Workshop Technician (HGV), you will inspect, service, maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, helping to ensure essential services continue to operate effectively across the borough.

No two days are the same. One day you could be servicing a refuse collection vehicle, the next carrying out diagnostics on a gritter, repairing specialist plant equipment, or preparing a minibus for service.

Our fleet includes:
  • Refuse collection vehicles
  • Gritting and winter maintenance vehicles
  • Vans and light commercial vehicles
  • Minibuses
  • Specialist plant and equipment
  • Other frontline service vehicles

Every repair and maintenance task you complete plays a direct role in supporting the services that local residents rely upon every day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs effectively and efficiently
  • Undertake routine servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Prepare vehicles and equipment for MOT testing
  • Carry out MOT and taxi testing where qualified
  • Ensure work complies with DVSA standards and health and safety requirements
  • Complete maintenance records accurately
  • Provide technical advice and support to service users
  • Participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota

What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
  • NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Studies, or equivalent qualification
  • Experience working within a vehicle maintenance environment
  • Knowledge of vehicle systems including hydraulics, electrics, braking systems and transmissions
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and workmanship
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work

Working Hours

Early Shift
Monday to Thursday: 6:00am - 2:00pm
Friday: 6:00am - 1:30pm

Late Shift
Monday to Thursday: 10:00am - 6:00pm
Friday: 10:00am - 5:30pm

You will also participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
