The role
To work within a team coordinating the Highway Authority response to planning enquires and applications ensuring that suitable arrangements are put in place to mitigate any adverse effects and maximise street scene improvement. To manage development control projects of a significant nature.
To ensure that all highway projects dealt with, from developers and others, meet the council’s highway design standards by managing their progress through design review process, ensuring a high quality of public realm.
Key duties and responsibilities of the role
- To assist the Principal Engineer Highway Development in the delivery of high-quality network development services ensuring that these are delivered in accordance with Council’s policies and the requirements of its Committees, the Executive and Senior Management, best professional practice, effective processes/mechanisms, and legislation.
- To manage Highway Authority response to planning enquiries and applications of a major nature.
- To manage the design review process for allocated highway schemes in the borough and ensure their compliance with the Council’s highway design standards.
- To manage a programme of highway development control projects and manage the project teams and other resources to deliver those projects within budgetary and time limits.

The Highway Development Team contribute to the overall Highway Authority’s response to planning enquiries and applications ensuring that suitable arrangements are put in place to mitigate any adverse effects and maximise street scene improvement. The Highway Development Team also ensure that all highway projects are dealt with, from developers and others, and meet the council’s highway design standards by managing their progress through design review process, ensuring a high quality of public realm.
About You:
- You will have a recognised degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering.
- You will have detailed knowledge of the current street scene and transport legislation.
- Experience of producing technical reports and work well within a team in delivering highway solutions.
