We Are St Helens Borough Council

Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Council which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.

Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.

Making A Difference as a Support Assistant in Stephenson Resource Centre

Within Day Opportunities, we have several pathways leading to education, employment and life-long learning, as well as supporting people with complex physical and behavioural disabilities, so it is vitally important the successful candidates can work flexibly across each area, in a variety of venues.

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, energetic, creative and proactive individuals to work directly with service users in promoting real life experiences. Day Opportunities aims to offer consistency of staffing and values its reputation as an efficient and effective service.

The service operates Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and supports adults with learning, physical and sensory disabilities including those on the autistic spectrum. Services are delivered in St Helens utilising a range of both local authority and community provisions.

In line with Government Legislation the service aims to develop a person-centred approach and deliver on agreed individual outcomes, tailoring packages of support to suit the need of each user.

Within the role of Support Assistant, you will provide quality and effective opportunities through outcome focussed activities, delivering on Five Ways to Wellbeing and Lifelong Learning, each activity will help to develop skills and pursue the personal interests and preferences of users, in addition, you will be required to support all aspects of personal care and daily need.

You will also be responsible for the daily monitoring and evaluation of the support package, therefore you will require effective communication/literacy skills and a basic knowledge of IT.

You must understand the importance of promoting individuals' rights to independence, choice and inclusion and have experience of supporting people who need assistance.

Experience of working within the Social Care Sector is preferable but not essential, as corporate induction and training is provided.
