These are exciting times for Doncaster. Being the country’s newest northern City will help attract more investment and improve opportunities and life chances for our residents and communities. We have a number of significant large-scale developments, regeneration schemes and infrastructure projects that will continue to transform Doncaster.
City of Doncaster Council is in an enviable position of having a recently adopted Local Plan (Sept 2021) and are now implementing the new development plan policies and bringing forward development as part of our planning application service. We are a busy Planning Service dealing with numerous transformational projects in the City – delivering housing and employment opportunities, whilst importantly balancing this with the environmental and ‘building beautiful’ agendas.
We are looking for a Principal Planning Officer to join the Development Management team to work on a range of our highest profile, strategic applications to deliver development which is instrumental to the ongoing investment and prosperity of the city. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced officer to play a key role in the determination and delivery of high-quality development. With considerable experience within Development Management, you will have excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; you will work well in a team environment, with a challenging but interesting case load.
You will be part of a strong, friendly, and supportive multidisciplinary team, all of whom work hard towards developing our planning service and delivering high quality developments. We have a track record of working on innovation having recently been part of the government’s Open Digital Planning project, which we continue to be involved in.
The successful candidate will have the ability to proactively manage their own complex caseloads, collaborate positively with colleagues from across the council, as well as external stakeholders, developers, Elected Members, and the general public. There are also opportunities to act as mentor to other members of the team.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a positive, dedicated, and friendly service, working on interesting and varied projects so if you’re an ambitious planner with experience in managing major planning applications and a strong desire to deliver real, positive change to the area, we want to hear from you.
