About the role

You will work with the DPH to provide public health advice and leadership to elected members and the Health and Wellbeing Board.

The Council has recently been reorganised under the three themes of People, Place and Resources.  You will work particularly closely with colleagues in Resources.

Resources includes NHS colleagues supporting the Havering Place Based Partnership Board who have been integrated with Council counterparts into a single commissioning function. This creates a unique opportunity for public health professionals, working alongside health and care colleagues to gain greater insight about the needs of local residents, and apply the principles of proportionate universality, population health and population health management to inform service development and maximise opportunities for prevention and the reduction of inequality.

You will also provide technical expertise and visible leadership to improve public health outcomes across the wider North East London Integrated Care system.

You will work with and lead a small but enthusiastic team of public health practitioners, commissioning and insight specialists.

You will have the opportunity to build on existing interests - academic links and involvement in the public health training scheme and innovation are encouraged. Havering Council is an approved training location for Public Health Specialist training and GP placement for Public Health experience.

The precise details of your portfolio will be agreed with you after your appointment.  You will have the opportunity to take the lead on programmes of work spanning health improvement, health intelligence, health protection and healthcare public health.

About you

Candidates must be on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register in Public Health, or UK Public Health Register (or be within 6 months of the same). The successful candidate must maintain their registration thereafter; participate in ongoing professional revalidation and remain in good standing with the Faculty of Public Health through appropriate CPD.

We welcome applications from candidates at any stage of their Consultant career – newly qualified or experienced. Above all, you must be passionate about achieving better health outcomes for Havering residents.
