Saltdean Primary School is looking to recruit a dedicated and well organised clerk who will provide high level advice, support and administrative assistance to our governing board. This involves arranging meetings, taking minutes, keeping records and advising the governing board on local and national developments that will impact on their work.
You must have experience of minute-taking, good ICT and communication skills, with an excellent command of the English language, and be able to work with minimal supervision. Training for clerks is provided by the local authority and through online modules. There will also be opportunities to network with other clerks.
This post will appeal to someone who enjoys working with a group of dedicated professionals, has an interest in education and would like to work from home for the majority of the time. The role will require the ability to work flexibly to meet deadlines and at times convenient to the governing board. The full governing board usually meets six times per year on a Wednesday evening, and we operate with two main committees which meet at least three times a year - one on a Wednesday evening and one on Wednesdays during the school day. These meetings are generally held within school, with some online exceptions.
We are ideally looking for an experienced professional who can be employed at the Senior Clerk level. However, we are also able to provide development opportunities for those who wish to work towards this level, so we can offer the role at Scale 4a in the first instance. The local authority offers induction, training and continuous support for clerks, and you would be expected to complete relevant training before moving to the next level.
Senior clerks are also required to clerk panels periodically, for which you will be paid extra hours at your usual hourly rate.
Saltdean Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
