About the role:
This role leads the strategic direction and delivery of the borough's Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) services, ensuring effective implementation across the Community Safety Partnership. The postholder will oversee staff responsible for service delivery, commission key support services such as refuge accommodation and therapeutic care, and drive innovative community-based initiatives, including bystander training and youth engagement. They will also promote reporting and support through tools like the Safe Streets App. In addition to VAWG responsibilities, the role manages wider community safety projects and business transformation initiatives to improve outcomes for residents, while supporting senior leadership in achieving the Council's overarching goals.

Key Responsibilities:
- Providing leadership and day to day management of the VAWG service, ensuring that delivery is driven forward, risks are managed and programme integrity maintained
- Providing policy advice and support to Chief Officers and Elected Members in relation to VAWG
- Developing and providing policy advice and support to Community Safety Partnership (CSP) programme board Chairs on VAWG related matters
- Creating and developing a clear and plausible strategy and approach to delivering VAWG and other associated outcomes
- Leading the planning and designing of the VAWG service and other associated Community Safety programmes
- Managing the VAWG service budget, practising good financial management over all resources provided through various internal and external funding arrangements
- Oversee the delivery of the service which will include supervisory and line management responsibilities (3 staff)
- Leading the commissioning of VAWG projects in partnership with colleagues from Strategic Commissioning, ensuring effective procurement and contract management
- Managing the borough's relationship with MOPAC, the MPS and specialist VAWG providers. Building and developing relationships with partners to deliver effective co-operation and productive working relationships with the Borough's named contact within these organisations
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Educated to degree level
- Expert knowledge of and delivery within the VAWG agenda - local, national and international experience.
- Expert understanding of legislation, risk level, emerging threats and how international/cultural pressures impact upon the localised agenda
- Expert knowledge of the most at risk groups within the VAWG agenda with knowledge and understanding on how to engage with these groups
- Skill and experience in translating national policy and legislation to local context
- Experience and skills in presenting information to partners in an easy and understandable manner
- Experience and skill in drafting briefing notes and other communications for a variety of audiences
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Ability and experience of staff supervision
- Ability to manage a range of budgets from external providers
- Skills and experience in preparing and being granted funding from external providers
- Excellent leadership and management skills for both line managed staff and external providers
- Good ICT skills including the use of all MS based software
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of escalating and resolving complex issues and needs
- Ability to manage sensitive information confidently and confidentially
- Knowledge and awareness of the sensitivities of this work
