The Panel considers and makes recommendations about the level of allowances that should be paid. Arrangements are in place for the three Councils to share a Panel.</p>\n<p>Once appointed, the Panel will consist of three members of the public appointed for eight years. At present, one position on the Panel is vacant.</p>\n<p>An allowance is paid to Panel members of £15.74 per hour. Meetings of the Panel can be held in the evenings or during office hours to suit the convenience of those appointed. The Panel need to meet as often as necessary to formulate a report on Members’ allowances for each of the Councils.</p>\n<p>It is important to highlight that this is not a job, it is a casual appointment that operates on a task and finish basis as and when required. An indication of the likely commitment each month varies dependent on the requirements of each Council, but as an example, when pulling together a report this would typically require 10 to 12 hours a month. However, there will be periods of time when the Panel is not required to undertake any work for the Councils.</p>\n<p>Meetings with Officers and Councillors at each Council are carried out either online or in person, and this is determined by each Council individually.
