About the role:
Horsham District Council is looking for a Democratic Services Officer to join our small dynamic Democratic Services team, working to facilitate the Council’s decision-making processes and the delivery of elections.
As a Democratic Services Officer you will provide administrative support to committees, sub-committees and advisory groups, including collating agendas and taking concise, accurate minutes. You will provide support for electoral registration and elections processes. The role also assists with the wider running of the Democratic Services team and includes updating information on the Council’s website and providing information and support to Councillors and colleagues.
The role involves covering evening meetings (typically around 7.30pm but some can go on later) around twice a month. At the time of an election, working additional hours may be required and work would be predominantly office based during this period.
Starting salary will be offered dependent on skills and experience.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you must have good administration and minute taking skills along with a pro-active approach to work and excellent communication skills. You must be able to prioritise your work and be flexible, responding to the needs of the team at the time. As a committed team player with keen attention to detail and accuracy, you will help to maintain the electoral register, and deliver elections. Often working in a fast moving, busy environment, you’ll be brilliant with people and enthusiastic to always deliver great customer service.
The post would be ideally suited to an experienced Democratic Services Officer, although applicants with suitable knowledge, skills and qualifications are welcome to apply. The role would also be suitable to someone looking for a career in Local Government as you will gain extensive experience working with both Councillors and senior officers.
