You can make a real difference to young people with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in helping them develop life changing skills which will enable them to develop their independence and confidence which can then enhance their social, educational and employment opportunities.<br><br>The Travel Training team work closely with young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) attending schools and colleges to deliver an AQA accredited programme which aims to provide young people with the skills to be able to travel independently from home to school/college. <br><br><b>About the role</b><br><br>The role requires working one to one with young people with an EHCP at KS3 - KS5 who have been identified by the school/ college, from partner agencies and referrals and assigned by the line manager as pupils who will benefit from Travel Training.<br><br>Focus of the role.<ul>\n<li>To train young people to gain the skills and confidence to use public transport to travel to and from school independently.Ensure eligibility criteria is met and that they are suitable for the programme.</li>\n<li>To regularly monitor and evaluate the child and young person's progress and keep accurate evidence and provide positive and constructive feedback to young people and schools in relation to their training.</li>\n<li>To develop the travel training skills of the students, in the classroom and in the community, assisting students in class based and practical activities where applicable.</li>\n<li>The role requires face to face meetings with families and 1:1 support with young people while out in the community. Excellent communication skills, empathy, patience, and the ability to understand individual needs are vital attributes.</li>\n<li>The role involves planning and managing your own caseload and work patterns whilst being supported by the Travel Trainer manager.</li>\n<li>This role involves a flexible work pattern to support young people in accordance with their timetables/commitments. Key times where you will be required to work with students are during their journey to and from school/college. For example, you may be working with a student from 7.30am to support them into school/college and then will need to support them to get home between 3-3.30. between these hours you will need to arrange your work between various other aspects of the role.</li>\n<li>The focus of this role involves travelling on public transport with young people to and from school/college and therefore entails high levels of supporting young people whilst on walking journeys.</li>\n<li>Ability to face challenges in a proactive way, including developing alternative strategies where required to ensure student progress.</li>\n</ul><br><b>About you</b><br><br>Essential:<ul>\n<li>Experience of working with SEN children and young people in an educational/informal educational setting, including monitoring development.</li>\n<li>Ability to build and develop relationships with stakeholders (including schools, colleges, and partner agencies) to generate referrals.</li>\n<li>Evidence of previous experience in maintain health and safety standard and safeguarding whilst working with people in the community.</li>\n<li>Demonstrable skills in keeping accurate records and managing own workload to keep up to date with deadlines.</li>\n<li>Communication skills - good written and oral skills with an ability to communicate with ease at all levels in an appropriate, concise, and accurate manner, including building and developing strong professional relationships with students and their families.</li>\n<li>Travel Trainers may be required to work at various locations during the day so a Driving licence and access to a vehicle is required for the role.</li>\n</ul>Desirable:<ul>\n<li>Ability to work flexibly to support young people across Hertfordshire during varied times of the day.</li>\n<li>Evidence of managing a varied caseload.</li>\n</ul><br><br>This job role is within the Community Services, level COM7 job profile.
