About us
Camden is committed to making the borough a great place to live, work, and visit. We work with our communities to ensure that everyone has access to opportunities and that no one is left behind. Housing Services is focused on providing safe, secure, and sustainable housing to improve the quality of life for all residents.
The role
Caretakers play a vital role in keeping Camden’s estates clean, safe, and well-maintained. You will be responsible for cleaning communal areas, ensuring refuse collections are completed efficiently, reporting repairs, and addressing safety concerns. You will monitor and liaise with contractors working on-site, conduct quality control checks, and report issues related to anti-social behaviour. You will also engage with residents, support tenant and resident associations, and promote community involvement.
As part of your duties, you will carry out minor repairs, painting, specialist cleaning, and maintenance tasks as required. You will ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, removing hazards from communal areas where necessary. The role requires physical resilience, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Core working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:12pm. Some flexibility may be required to attend emergencies.
About you
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about delivering excellent services to Camden’s residents. You should have experience in estate maintenance, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with teams and external stakeholders. Basic IT skills, knowledge of health and safety regulations, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential. You should also be comfortable working from heights, handling machinery, and managing physically demanding tasks. A full UK driving licence is desirable but not required. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, and DBS checks will be required for successful candidates.
