We are looking to appoint an inspirational, skilled and highly motivated SENDCo who will lead SEND across the school. This is a perfect opportunity for a dynamic and talented leader, with a proven track record of raising achievement and improving outcomes for pupils with SEND aligned with the schools’ vision.
Mile Oak Primary School is situated on a large site school in Portslade with 429 pupils on roll, this includes Little Oaks Nursery.

You will need to share our core vision of thinking big and the school values of ambition, courage, pride and respect. The successful candidate will have a clear vision for SEND education and possess the skills to lead school development in this key area. This role will involve leading and managing the delivery of exemplary SEND provision in order to ensure that all pupils are supported to achieve their full potential.
Our new SENDCo will:
• Drive the schools vision and values in relation to SEND.
• Play an active part in whole school evaluation and school development planning for SEND.
• Lead, manage and monitor the SEND budgets including strategic delegation of internal and external resources in order to drive standards and secure good value for money.
• Model and disseminate high quality targeted teaching to diminish differences and work closely with staff.
• Work under pressure and prioritise time and tasks appropriately, whilst meeting deadlines.
• Develop effective strategies to bridge barriers to learning through the Graduated Approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review).
• Analyse data and act on it appropriately to ensure all targeted pupils make progress and have improved outcomes.
• Have the ability to build strong and effective working relationships with the Senior Leadership Team, wider staff, outside agencies, the Local Authority and parents.
• Hold the National SENCO Award, or be willing to begin to work towards the NPQ SEND qualification, unless qualified through performing the role of SENDCo prior to and since September 2009.
• Line manage Learning Mentors, Individual Needs Assistants and caseloads.
• Identify learning needs and referring children to relevant agencies.
• Organising progress plans and annual review meetings.
• Promoting inclusive practice and producing appropriate personal CPD to staff.
