Greenbank School is a purpose-built school catering for 122 pupils, age 11 – 18 years. Students present with a range of learning needs including Autism, Communication, Social and Complex Needs.
Greenbank also has residential provision which is used as a short break facility for students who attend Greenbank School (Yr9-11).
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced middle / senior leader to make significant contributions in the strategic leadership and management of Personal Development, Behaviour and Attitudes, and Safeguarding (DSL) across school which will involve, but is not exclusive to, the following:
- Play a major role in the leadership and management of the school.
- In doing so, the Deputy Headteacher will assist in the formulation of the aims and objectives of the school.
- Strategically plan to achieve aspirations and goals of the school.
- Lead, inspire and motivate staff and pupils.
- Lead an effective team.
- Provide good role models.
- Drive improvements in teaching and learning through Quality Assurance tasks resulting in evidence-based staff development activity.
- Act as the school’s Designated Safeguard Lead (DSL).
- Drive, sustain and live the school ethos, values and vision.
- Ensure the sustained improvement of the school by contributing to the SDP and SEF, and attending professional meetings with the SIC implementing recommendations.
- Undertake any other professional, reasonable duties delegated by the Headteacher.
The Deputy Headteacher is expected to manage and lead the school and carry out delegated duties as requested by the Headteacher and School Governors.
The Deputy Headteacher post is non-residential.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- To work closely with other members of the Leadership Team in providing strategic leadership and management and ensuring effectiveness of whole school organisation.
- To provide curriculum leadership for the teaching team in relation to teachers’ responsibilities as curriculum co-ordinators ensuring that arrangements for the curriculum management, including assessment, recording and reporting, are planned and implemented effectively.
- Ensure that all pupils make the best possible progress in all areas of the school curriculum, including the National Curriculum and within the school’s residential provision, as appropriate to their personal, social and emotional development.
- To provide a systematic and effective system to support, promote, monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching performance and pupils learning and attainment.
- This will include contributing to the performance management reviews for teachers and staff appraisals.
- To provide professional development, leadership and management to teachers and all other categories of staff, working directly with pupils, ensuring that a relevant programme of professional development activities is facilitated to groups of staff and individuals.
- To fulfil the role of Designated Safeguard Lead, lead the Safeguarding Team and liaise with Safeguarding Governor.
- To work with parents/carers and carry out the role of Pastoral Care and support liaising with outside agencies.
- To take responsibility for the effective transition of pupils, with a special focus on new intake and in-year admissions.
- To lead on pupil voice, pupil wellbeing, reward and the pastoral management of pupils.
- To be behaviour and attitudes lead, attend necessary external meetings, and update the behaviour policy annually.
- To lead on training and staff development around safeguarding and behaviour
- Lead on pupil attendance. Write and implement the pupil attendance policy and procedures, and meet with EWO.
- To monitor and action behaviour and safeguarding systems ensuring timely responses.
- To undertake safeguarding supervision – individual, group and external (SCiE team).
- To chair EHCP reviews as required and check the relevant Annual Review documentation.
- To deputise for the when Headteacher as required.
- To provide holistic and therapeutic support for students.
- To report to governors in relation to areas of responsibility.
- Lead staff induction for the staff in your remit.
- To provide ongoing CPD to ensure evidence-based best practice regarding safeguarding and behaviour.
- To oversee AET progression framework and be an AET trainer.
- Contribute to the Quality Assurance of the provision to learners.
- To manage the school calendar.
- To be the school’s Educational Visits Coordinator.
- To teach a reduced timetable commensurate with the role.
- To assist in staff recruitment procedures and be safer recruitment trained.
- Be the ECT tutor.
- To manage own work/life balance.
