Applications are invited from members of the public for a vacancy on the Joint Independent Remuneration Panel (JIRP), which considers Members’ (Councillors’) allowances for:
Each Council is required to have an independent panel to consider and advise on the level and type of allowances to be paid to its Members. The Panel considers and makes recommendations about the level of allowances that should be paid. Arrangements are in place for the three Councils to share a Panel.
Once appointed, the Panel will consist of three members of the public appointed for eight years. At present, one position on the Panel is vacant.
An allowance is paid to Panel members of £15.74 per hour. Meetings of the Panel can be held in the evenings or during office hours to suit the convenience of those appointed. The Panel need to meet as often as necessary to formulate a report on Members’ allowances. Previous committee experience would be an advantage.
