We are looking for a Senior Design & Technical Manager to join our Delivery team here at Southern Housing.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 35 hours per week. This is a hybrid role based at our Farringdon office in Central London 2 days a week.

In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams throughout the organisation, plus external contractors/suppliers to provide Design and Technical support and guidance on fire engineering solutions, working closely with colleagues from pre-inception stage through to the end of the Defects Liability Period. The focus of the role is to ensure that the full Design and Technical reviews are completed, that the most appropriate design solutions and fire safety remediation measures are undertaken, and that our standard documentation is robust and current, to ensure our risks are fully mitigated.

In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams throughout the organisation, plus external contractors/suppliers to provide Design and Technical support and guidance on fire engineering solutions, working closely with colleagues from pre-inception stage through to the end of the Defects Liability Period. The focus of the role is to ensure that the full Design and Technical reviews are completed, that the most appropriate design solutions and fire safety remediation measures are undertaken, and that our standard documentation is robust and current, to ensure our risks are fully mitigated.
Responsibilities can include:
- Critically appraising schemes and reviewing fire engineering solutions/designs and fire strategies, to ensure compliance with relevant internal and external standards, fire safety codes and guidance so that high levels of quality are delivered.
- Critically appraising pre-occupation FRAs and fire inspection reports, leading the organisations response on contractors' remediation measures so that high levels of quality are delivered.
- Working with Development Managers to manage third party fire inspections. Reviewing fire inspection reports and advising on the appropriate response, considering proportionality and value for money. Liaising on responses between the inspector, Southern Housing, and the Contractor.
- Satisfactorily resolving design and technical issues identified as part of planning applications, contractors' proposals, design variations and contract derogations.
- Monitoring design consultants' performance, on post-acquisition work, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, London Plan and NHBC Standards as appropriate
- 5+ years of experience of running strategic projects without significant oversight
- Understanding of upcoming fire safety legislation, codes of practice and guidance.
- Fire Engineering qualification or equivalent experience background.
- Previous experience of managing relationships with contractors/suppliers
- Advanced knowledge of building components and construction methodology.
