<h4>The role:</h4>Southwark Council’s Internship programme is for Southwark residents aged 16-25 who may be looking to get a great first stepping stone into the world of work. We are excited to announce our upcoming internship cohort to start in March 2026.The programme will run for 12 weeks and will incorporate three key elements:<ul><li>Paid work experience</li><li>Master classes</li><li>A group project</li></ul>What will you gain on the internship programme?Gain Transferrable Skills<ul><li>Interns are able to gain skills such as: communication, adaptability, time management, organisation, etc. The experience itself will assist them in gaining meaningful employment, as they are able to evidence knowledge of local government in interviews and their ability to carry out a role.</li></ul>Develop Professional Contacts<ul><li>Interns will network as part of the experience, which will give them professional contacts. These contacts can help them to secure future employment, advice in their chosen profession and career advice. As part of the support from our team, we will be holding a masterclass on networking.</li></ul>Clarification on Future Career<ul><li>Internships give people the opportunity to try working in new and exciting services and potentially areas of interest, to narrow down their career path.</li></ul><h4>About you:</h4>We’re looking for enthusiastic, curious and motivated individuals who are ready to take their first steps into the world of work. In this role, you will support Southwark’s town centres and high streets to thrive as vibrant, cleaner, greener, and safer spaces for residents and visitors. You will research the needs of local entrepreneurs and business owners to help inform strategy and programme design, while also building relationships with Southwark’s wider business community to foster collaboration and growth. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local economic development while developing valuable skills in research, stakeholder engagement, and project delivery.Adult Social Care Personal Budget Service: In this role, you will work on an exciting projects including Supporting the annual price review of our care provisions, helping collate external rate requests for year 26/27, recording and maintaining accurate information, supporting and organising meetings, and working closely with Service managers, social workers, placement colleagues, and external providers. You will bring analytical skills and attention to detail, especially when working with financial data and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work with both internal teams and external providers. You’ll be part of a dedicated Payments team within the Personal Budgets and Client Finance Service. We provide vital payment functions for Adult social care services. About the Role We are seeking a Governance and Compliance Apprentice to join our Governance and Compliance team, where you’ll play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality governance services across the Peabody Group. Working under the guidance of experienced team members and reporting to the Senior Governance and Compliance Officer, you’ll assist with the smooth running of board and committee activities, maintain statutory records, and contribute to compliance processes. This role offers structured learning and skill-building as part of a Level 4 Governance Officer apprenticeship, giving you practical experience in governance and compliance while developing essential organisational and communication skills. With mentorship and hands-on experience, you’ll grow your knowledge and explore opportunities for personal and professional development. What You’ll Be Doing: • Assisting with the organisation of board and committee meetings, including agenda planning and preparing reports. • Supporting the production of accurate formal minutes and maintaining governance records. • Helping with board and committee member processes such as recruitment, onboarding, and training. • Contributing to statutory filings and compliance assessments by gathering and reviewing information. • Responding to governance and compliance queries from internal and external stakeholders. • Coordinating the sealing and signing of legal agreements and maintaining the Sealing Register. • Supporting project work and the development of IT-based governance solutions. About the Apprenticeship: This is a Level 4 Governance Officer Apprenticeship over 20 months. As part of the programme, you will complete planned training and development activities that are built into your normal working hours. During this time, you will attend workshops, receive one-to-one mentoring, and apply your learning to real-world tasks. Upon completing the apprenticeship, you’ll have a final assessment to demonstrate your skills and readiness for a career in data quality. Funding Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must: • Be aged 18 or over. • Not be in full-time education at the start of the apprenticeship. • Not already hold qualifications at the same or a higher level in a similar subject. • Have lived in the UK/EEA for at least 3 years prior to the commencement of your apprenticeship • Your residency status must remain valid for the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
