Financial Assessment Officer
We have a fantastic opportunity to available for a Financial Assessment Officer to join our Financial Assessments &amp; Payments Team within Adult Social Care here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full time, 12-month fixed term contract.
As Financial Assessment Officer, you will be part of the Financial Assessments &amp; Payments Team within Adult Social Care. This role is responsible for determining whether individuals are required to contribute financially towards the cost of their care, in accordance with the Council’s policy and the Care Act. Where applicable, the role also involves ensuring that individuals receive their full entitlement to welfare benefits and allowances.

Key responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Conducts financial assessments and annual reviews under the Council’s Charging Policies and other legal frameworks, through desk-based work, in accordance with defined legislation, procedures and timescales so that the Council may correctly charge for social services care packages, respite and residential care.</li>
<li>Ensure that assessments and case visits are dealt with correctly and in a timely manner, giving advice and guidance as required</li>
<li>To obtain, record, review, verify and collate financial information/evidence for financial assessment and to undertake all aspects of the financial assessment work both for non-residential adult social care charging and Charging for Residential accommodation within agreed timescales to meet team targets. This could be through a variety of channels including home visits, appointments at the Council’s Offices, e-mail, post, or telephone.</li>
<li>Keep updated with current legislation and government changes, specifically in connection with the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.</li>
<li>To help train and coach colleagues on the team including new colleagues and cross training within the team as well as attendance at relevant meetings.</li>

We have an exciting employment opportunity to recruit a permanent Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Scheme Officer with a minimum of 2 years’ recent experience. 
We are looking for an individual who has an indepth knowledge of processing complex assessments, such as Universal Credit, Self-Employed, Students, and Persons from Abroad. You will also help those on low income to sustain their tenancies ensuring their benefits are fully maximised. 
You will be part of a committed enthusiastic team, focused on high performance and working to challenging financial and operational targets. 
You will work using your own initiative and prioritise conflicting deadlines, manage your time efficiently with good communication skills. You will need a good standard of numeracy and literacy, effectively responding to enquiries received by letter, telephone and e-mail. 
You will need to understand and be responsive to customer’s needs, always presenting a positive and professional image to the customer, whilst ensuring effective engagement with vulnerable and challenging customers. 
The Contracted hours are 36 hours a week and we offer a flexible working hours policy which includes hybrid working.
